In the
Mexican War
1846-1848
The company raised in Vermilion
County, Illinois for the Mexican War
was not accepted into service by the
Governor. However, several Vermilion
County men enlisted in separate units
for service, and several veterans of
the conflict later lived in the county.

There is no marker or memorial for
these men in Vermilion County or any
marker or monument for the Illinois
troops which served in Mexico from
1846-1848.

Today, the Federal Government has
not erected a memorial recognizing the
veterans of the Mexican War.
